What are Silicon Carbide used for?
Release time: 2025-10-21

SiC is a hard material with a Mohs hardness between 9.0 and 9.5. Silicon Carbide exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and is not corroded by hydrochloric, sulfuric, and hydrofluoric acids.

Silicon Carbide is primarily used in three areas:

Silicon Carbide can be used to make grinding tools such as grinding wheels, oilstones, grinding heads, and sandpaper tiles.

② It can be used to make resistance heating elements such as silicon carbide rods and tubes.

Silicon Carbide can also be used to make refractory products.

It is suitable for use in areas subject to heavy pressure, corrosion, and wear, such as blast furnaces and cupolas. Its corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance, wear resistance, and thermal conductivity can be used to extend the service life of large blast furnace linings.

It is used in non-ferrous metal (zinc, aluminum, copper) smelting and furnace linings, metal conveying pipes, filters, crucibles, etc.; in aerospace technology, it is used as rocket engine tail nozzles and high-temperature gas turbine blades; in the silicate industry, it is widely used as the base plates, muffle linings, and saggers of various kilns; and in the chemical industry, it is used in oil and gas generation, petroleum gasifiers, and desulfurization furnace linings. Silicon carbide has excellent thermal conductivity and thermal stability. It can be used in heat exchangers, reducing fuel consumption by over 20% and saving 35%, while increasing production efficiency by 20-30%. This is especially true in discharge and conveying pipes in mineral processing plants. Its wear resistance is 6-7 times higher than that of ordinary wear-resistant materials.
