Used for the production of manganese steel, stainless steel, high temperature alloy, non-ferrous metal alloy and low carbon high strength steel deoxidizer and desulfurizer; Also used in aluminum manganese alloy, manganese nickel steel and stainless steel electrode manufacturing.
There are three main production methods for manganese metal: electrolysis, aluminothermic method (aluminum reduction method) and electrosilicothermic method (silicon reduction method). Among them, electrolysis has become the mainstream due to its high purity (99.7%~99.9%) and low pollution, while pyrometallurgy (aluminothermic method and electrosilicothermic method) has been gradually eliminated due to its low purity (94%~98%) or high cost.
Electrolysis (wet method):
1. Core process: Manganese Metal is obtained by electrolyzing manganese sulfate solution or manganese salt solution, with a purity of 99.7%~99.9%.
2. Advantages: The product has high purity and few impurities, and is suitable for high-end fields (such as electronics and aerospace). Less environmental pollution and lower energy consumption than pyrometallurgy.
Aluminothermic method (aluminum reduction method):
1. Core process: Using aluminum as a reducing agent, reducing manganese oxide (such as Mn3O4) to release chemical heat smelting Manganese Metal, the reaction formula is:
3Mn3O4 + 8Al → 9Mn + 4Al2O3
2. Features: The equipment and process are simple, but high-purity manganese ore raw materials (such as electrolytic manganese dioxide) are required. The product contains impurities such as phosphorus and aluminum, with low purity (94%~98%), high cost, and is rarely used.
Electric silicon thermal method (silicon reduction method):
1. Core process: Using silicon as a reducing agent, reducing manganese oxide (such as MnO) at high temperature, lime slag needs to be added to promote the reaction.
2. Features: Low cost, but high requirements for manganese ore grade. The product purity is between 94%~98%, with a high impurity content, and is mostly used in Manganese Metal alloy production.
